Gary Brooker



Gary Brooker is founder, vocalist and pianist of the iconic band Procol Harum, and co-composer of the classic song “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” which swept the world in the late ’60s, has sold over 10 million copies, and is the most played song in the history of British radio, recently voted ‘Most Loved No 1 Hit’ by BBC listeners. Procol Harum released ten innovative albums before their 1980s’ hiatus, and have been recording and touring worldwide again since 1991. In that interim Brooker enjoyed a productive solo career with the albums No More Fear of Flying, Lead Me to the Water, Echoes in the Nightand Within our House. With musical connections dating back to his first recording band, The Paramounts, he’s been a sought-after rock collaborator, playing in Eric Clapton’s back-up band, and in Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, 1997 – 1999. Brooker was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours on 14 June 2003, in recognition of his charitable services. [More info at, ‘Beyond the Pale’].
